Before its first World Cup

In May 2026, a few weeks before departing for the first World Cup in its history, the Cape Verde national team was welcomed at the Royal Horizon Beijo Mansão Ponta Sino during its visit to the island of Sal. Organized with the support of the Cape Verde Chamber of Tourism, the occasion concluded with a grand dinner at the resort bringing together the entire delegation — players, coaches, the minister, and the president of the Chamber of Tourism. An evening we will remember for a long time, the prelude to a journey that would thrill an entire nation.

A grand dinner for the Blue Sharks before departure

Welcoming the Blue Sharks on the eve of a historic milestone was an honor for the whole house. Our teams prepared a dinner worthy of the event for the delegation, in the setting of the resort, between the ocean and the pools.

Over the course of the evening, players, staff members, and officials discovered the establishment and its facilities — and were highly impressed by the resort. For our employees, most of whom are Cape Verdean, meeting the faces of the national team just days before the big departure will remain a highlight of the hotel’s young history.

Lasting ties with Cape Verdean football

The occasion also opened a new chapter: following the visit, our general manager was introduced to the president of the Cape Verdean Football Federation. From those discussions came a welcome partnership in support of the national team and its delegation, a gesture that was warmly received. We hope to see players and delegation members within our walls again soon — this time on vacation, with the clock switched off.

The Cape Verde team made history at the 2026 World Cup

What the team accomplished next exceeded many expectations. In its first-ever appearance, Cape Verde went through the group stage without a single defeat: 0-0 against Spain, 2-2 against Uruguay, 0-0 against Saudi Arabia. Finishing second in their group, the Blue Sharks became the first debut nation to reach the knockout stage since 2010.

In the round of 32, on July 3 in Miami, they stood up to Argentina, the reigning world champions, losing only 3-2 after extra time in a match acclaimed around the world. An exit through the very front door, recounted in detail on the team’s official page on the FIFA website.

We are immensely proud of these players and of what they showcased: the talent, courage, and hospitality of Cape Verde. And we are convinced — this is only the beginning.
